Honorary Alderman Joe Tormey
\nThe Mayor of Charnwood, Cllr Colin Hamilton, has paid tribute to Honorary Alderman Joe Tormey, who has sadly died.<\/p>\n
Honorary Alderman Tormey served as a borough councillor for 24 years, between 1983 and 1987 and from 1991 until 2011. He was a former Mayor of Charnwood and a deputy leader of the Council. He was appointed to the role of Honorary Alderman in 2011.<\/p>\n
Cllr Hamilton said: \u201cOn behalf of Charnwood Borough Council, I would like to express our sincere condolences to the family and friends of Honorary Alderman Tormey, who served the borough council and residents of Charnwood for many years.<\/p>\n
\u201cHonorary Alderman Tormey dedicated his time and energy to making our communities better and stronger, and we will always be grateful for his service.\u201d<\/p>\n
As is tradition, flags at the Council will be flown at half-mast on the day of Honorary Alderman Tormey\u2019s funeral.<\/p>\n
The conferring of the title Honorary Alderman\/Alderwoman is one of the highest awards that can be made to a former councillor in recognition of exceptional service to the Council. Honorary Aldermen\/Alderwomen wear a dark blue robe and support the Mayor on formal ceremonial occasions.<\/p>\n
They occasionally undertake social duties at the request of the Mayor and are entitled to process in and take a seat at meetings of Council, although they have no vote.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
